What Is Kratom, And How Is It Consumed?

Kratom is a drug tree that grows only in Asia, and this tree interconnects with some plants that produce coffee. The scientific name of kratom is Mitragyna speciosa. The leaves of the kratom tree help increase the human body’s energy levels. Most native people consume Mitragyna speciosa for the stimulant effects, which helps the human body be more energetic, confident, and feel more awakened. Even some people consume kratom leaves in tea. People across the United States take kratom in capsule form to overcome health issues like anxiety, depression, etc.

What Is Happening Inside The U.S?

In the United States, people consume kratom to relax from physical pain, anxiety disorders, mood swings, and other things. But it induces some unwanted side effects on some people, such as overheating, frequent urination, sweating, diarrhea, nausea, weight loss, and many more things. Most people had side effects because of the drug, but it has become an addiction. Chronic pain or helping people detox from the use of opioids by mitigating withdrawal symptoms are heralds from kratom. As a painkiller, kratom connects to the same receptors in the brain, and there are some general side effects like abuse and addiction associated with kratom.

As per one of the Kratom industry groups, The American Kratom Association, the use of kratom might not be safe for children and pregnant women. According to some scientists, the consumption of kratom highly results in its side effects. For instance, if a person consumes around 1 to 5 grams of kratom leaves, they may only see some stimulant effects. However, if consumed at a higher dose, there may be some dangerous and long-term side effects.

  • Fatigue
  • Weight loss
  • Seizures
  • Constipation
  • Nausea
  • Appetite loss
  • Frequent urination
  • Dry mouth
  • Insomnia

Properties Of Kratom

Mitragyna Speciosa has two different compounds present in the leaves, i.e., Mitragynine and 7-α-hydroxy mitragynine. People consume the leaves for the pleasure of the mind. Earlier, people ingested the leaves because of long working hours and other health issues. It worked as a medicinal plant. The compounds present in the Kratom activate some particular receptors known as mu and delta-opioid receptors inside the brain.

In study, it showed that the changes made by the consumption of the leaves result in blockage of the pain and other opioid effects. After consuming the leaves, the effects start occurring after 10 to 15 minutes. If a person had a heavy meal, the effects might appear after 60 to 90 minutes. Furthermore, if someone consumes Kratom in a capsule form, the effects may begin after a while because the capsule takes time to dissolve inside the stomach.

Does Kratom Show Up In Blood And Urine Tests?

Most of the time, Kratom is not detectable. But in many standard drug tests, Kratom can be identified, such as a 10-panel drug test. Tests that involve urine or blood can quickly determine if the person has consumed Kratom or not. This drug can be detected for up to 7 days after consumption. In some people, Kratom is seen after seven days also because of the person’s body weight. The drug stays longer inside the human body when the body weight is heavier.

Older people have low metabolism, so the drug stays longer inside their bodies. The other things are the total amount of Kratom consumed by a person, other substances consumed with Kratom, or if a person has any liver diseases so the Kratom can be detected easily in the body.

Urinalysis is the most common method in which the drug is detected quickly. Urine kratom drug tests also detect particular alkaloids in the human body even after seven days of consumption. Meanwhile, there are very few chances that a substance can be found in the blood test. Kratom can also be detected in the saliva, there is no current proof of this, but there are chances. The drug is identified with the help of hair follicles too. Hair screening is very uncommon, but hair screening can identify the substance for 90 days. Therefore, the most common test that courts or any other authority asks a person is a Urine test.

Detecting Kratom or its metabolites through blood, saliva, and hair follicle tests is not responsive. However, for people who undergo the 10-panel drug screen, several variables can dominate the length of time this drug can be detected in the system, including the following:

  • Bodyweight and fat percentage
  • Presence of other substances, such as alcohol
  • Liver function
  • Amount of Kratom recently used
  • Age and metabolic rate
  • Existence of co-occurring health problems

If there’s someone in your loved ones struggling with kratom addiction, there are many available help centers, and people can reach out when in need. Several inpatient addiction treatments are also available, and individuals can indulge in medical, behavioral therapy, detox programs, counseling, and support groups here.

Conclusion

Kratom may have some medicinal properties, but still consuming Kratom without any prescription provided by a doctor is not advisable. Because after consuming such things, people become addicted, and then even after some side effects, they cannot stop themselves. Government should be giving some Addiction treatment to the people who are highly addicted. Online websites selling the drug without being scared should be strictly prohibited.
